Results: Descriptive and Inferential Statistics

At this point, we need to consider the basics of data analysis in more detail. In this chapter, we focus on descriptive and inferential statistics. We discuss several important aspects, such as describing statistical relationships, and how to report them. We also discuss some elements of inferential statistics that are often misunderstood, such as p-values. However, we do not discuss specific statistical tests, for the simple reason that these are the subjects of the statistics class which you are likely following at the same time as this methodology class. We also do not provide exact guides for how to report specific statistical tests, such as t-tests, ANOVA’s or regression analyses. Such guidelines are covered in the SPSS or STATA guides, which will be made available on brightspace. We hope these are useful in assignment 2, and in your research papers or theses next year.
